Factors We Evaluated
1. Ease of Use
This was the most important criteria for me. I needed a label maker that I could take out of the box and use immediately without the need to read instructions. The process of making labels should be quick. The time required by each label maker to print a label was different. One model took about 15 seconds and that’s an incredibly long time to wait for a small label to print. However, the winner model was only 5 seconds long to print the exact two words.
2. Design/Quality of Materials
I was looking for an item that wasn’t too heavy or bulky , but felt solid in my hands. The quality of each manufacturer’s tape was equally crucial to me. Certain tapes were smooth and shiny, while others were matte or dull. I also wanted to know if the labels were simple to use once printed, i.e. could I remove the backing paper of the labels easily or would it take a pair of tweezers and a flashlight?
3. Many functions
I like a simple label maker, as mentioned earlier. I’m not looking for fancy templates and I don’t require “fun” fonts, however occasionally I’d like to alter the font size or the capitalization–and I’d rather be able do it without having to read the entire instruction manual.
